Commit after_filter doesn't propagate to application controllers when Sunspot::Rails installed as gem

Reported by mat | March 22nd, 2010 @ 09:48 AM | in Bugs

Received a report that when Sunspot::Rails is loaded as a gem, the after_filter that commits at the end of the request doesn't propagate to the application's controllers. This is because the after_filter method uses the inheritable_attribute structure internally, and in this case the controllers are loaded before the plugin. Thus the inheritable_attribute doesn't cascade to controllers that have already been loaded into memory.

Need to see if I can reproduce in the test suite -- currently the test suite works by loading Sunspot::Rails as a vendored plugin, but I think I'll need to come up with some alternative ways to run it.
