populate_hits does weird things when orphaned records exist

Reported by Joseph Palermo | March 17th, 2010 @ 03:16 PM | in Bugs

This is something we were seeing in our test environment.

We had a stale index in solr and it was coming back with 10 hits and none of them existed in the database. We then saw it try to do 10 separate bulk loads of objects out of the database. I think what populate_hits is doing is getting to the first hit, bulk loading all from the DB, but then since no records comes back, it moves on to the second hit and sees that is has not been populated and tries to bulk load everything again.

Perhaps the hits need to be flagged as 'loaded' or something along those lines so orphan hits don't cause extra database queries.
